- Tell us about yourself, your background, why did you join BAF and what do you plan to do after BAF?
I am an ambitious, intelligent and a confident girl. I like taking up challenges and doing something different and adventurous. The reason I pursued for BAF was that I had a passion for accounts and other practical and numerical subjects. Mugging up the theory is not something that interests me. My plan after BAF is still not decided but I may do an MBA in finance and may get in investment banking.
- How does it feel to be a Topper of the college in Semester exams?
It feels amazing to be amongst the toppers when the class is having a strength of 70 students. It’s a proud moment and I feel motivated to work more hard and to continue being in the toppers list. Competition has always been exciting for me.
- Whom will you credit your success to?
My Parents. The reason is both of them being engineers never forced me to get into the same field instead they encouraged me to take the subjects that I was interested in. Success in any field comes to you only when you are happy doing the work.
- Did you start preparing from the first day of your FY / SY?
No not actually. But I still believe that studying from the first day itself is the best thing a student could do.
- How did you study for Sem I / Sem III? (Share some tips / advice for each subject)
Regular studies, understanding the content and practice is all you need to do. And yes there is never a need or tuitions or classes. Self-study is a must. Yes if you really don’t understand anything what is taught by the teacher in the class then you could join a tuition otherwise I would say it’s just a waste of time and money.
- Which are the easy subjects in Sem I / Sem III?
Economics, Cost Accounting, Business Communication, Financial Accounting, Foundation Course.
- Any special way of writing the answers? Do you write answers in bullet points or in paragraphs?
I believe the paper should always be presentable in order to score well. Start with the introduction of the topic, then go on to the main answer and conclude in all the answers possible. If you have time then underline the key words in the theory subject and in the practical subjects always highlight the final answer.
- How do you crack case studies in theory and practical subjects?
We didn’t have any case study in the paper so I can’t answer this question. But yes of course if you want to a crack a case study just be clear with the logic and understand the content of the subject.
- Did you draw any diagram in any paper? Is it mandatory? Does it help to get more marks?
Yes I did draw diagrams. In papers like economics, diagrams play a very important role. One cannot explain a concept without drawing the diagram in a subject like economics. In other theory subjects also, one should draw a diagram wherever possible and if the time permits. It makes the paper presentable and helps to score more.
- Any specific study pattern adopted i.e. timetable / how many hours per subject per day etc.?
No. There is no fixed timetable or number of hours that I study. I just decide the portion or target that I want to finish. I try finishing that. Not necessary that I always finish but yes I try. Regular studies is a must.
- How do you fight against mood swings and distractions during exam preparation?
I don’t take much stress. Yes I am nervous like other students when I’m still left with the portion before few hours of exam but I just remember one thing that there can be no person who knows everything. Atleast I’ll not mess up with the answers I know. But yes there are some ways of overcoming mood swings and distractions during exam like for people who like n\music should listen to music or watch some funny videos. I like chatting and talking to my friends. That makes me feel relaxed or going out on a ride on my scooty. To avoid mood swings or distractions one must take short breaks and do what makes them feel relaxed.
- If you are made the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, what changes would you like to initiate in Indian education system?
Only one thing that I would like to change – avoid or ban the concept of definition. Mugging up thing is nowhere useful. Meaning is important not the definitions.
- Many students prepare sincerely but constantly live under fear that they are not from big college / not from English medium and eventually lose confidence. What message would you like to these students?
My message to such students would be that there is nothing difficult in the world. Anyone can learn and improve if they are willing and ready to work for it. Never have the fear of failing. You’ll always end up learning something in the process. Just do your part of studying and stop thinking about the rest.
- Through this struggle and success, what have you learned? What is the wisdom of life and competition? What is your message to the upcoming BAF students?
Hard work is not always necessary. You don’t really need to study for hours and slog. The key to success is quality studying. Even if you study for an hour just concentrate completely on it and understand exactly the things that you are studying.
